This is one of the strongest visual works in the batch. The two figures sit frontally at a café table, appearing both like companions and like participants forced to attend a quiet trial. Cups, a vase, and rising smoke transform an ordinary breakfast setting into a solemn and uneasy ritual. The man’s elongated face and the woman’s composed gaze fill the scene with silent pressure. The work rewrites classical double portraiture as an interrogation of time, relationship, and decorum—the quieter the scene becomes, the more it feels as though something is being judged.
